day 7

Last night was offline for half an hour to let my computer get reacquainted with the network. So, here are the pictures from today - and what a difference! Note the new leaves poking out of the cucumbers and how well the tomatoes are doing!

day 6

In the next couple days I'm going to be staging a massive transplant operation -- by Thursday I'll need to have all the plants in larger containers and under a substantial grow lamp set up. This will require several soup cans (which I'll have to ask for tomorrow) and some sort of string/cardboard(?) system to rig up the lights. Hrm. Planning will be required. For now, baby pictures:

Staged another quick rescue attempt this morning. I think in my attempt to kill off the mold I've allowed the dirt to dry over much. As I was transplanting the plants this morning the dirt was powdery -- it didn't secure the roots. Will have to start a regular watering regimen.

day 5b

The images of the day! They're always in the same order, and because I'm in a rush I'm not going to label them all. The last two pictures are the updated set up. I think I'll have to start doing some thinning - especially in the plastic cup, which makes me sad -- don't want to lose the lettuce! Perhaps I can transplant them...?

day 5a

Disaster struck this morning --

As you can see, a cucumber had fallen completely over!
Closeup:
So I quickly improvised a new planter:
And they're now doing better:
Much better:
However, I'm still plenty worried about the other plants, particularly the lettuce:
We will see...
